The Supreme Council of Health has put a solid and modern foundation through the establishment and development of a primary health system for the state of Qatar. This system was meant to cope with the concept of wellness which is one of the pillars of Qatar national vision. Such concept stems from the principle of enhancing the physical and mental health for the population of Qatar.
The existence of a high quality health care system in Qatar is an important factor in facing the health challenges posed mainly by the life style adopted by most of the population. So, such system will help them enjoy health and wellness which are conducive to productivity and contribution in the country’s progress.
In the light of all this the Supreme Council of Health (SCH), after a careful study of the past, has put forward strategic targets derived from Qatar Vision 2030. they are broadly:
- Achieving of sustained development in the field of primary health care through the provision of finance, training and quality services.
- Continuous development of performance by primary health doctors and staff.
- Upgrading customer service standards of primary health care through enhancing quality of rendered services.
- Strengthening all aspects related to health and wellness through the primary health care facilities and wellness centres which will be established soon.
Within the framework of its execution programme, the Quality Department has prepared a number of objectives for this phase which focus on:
1- Raising awareness through health education of the individual, family and community.
2- Promotion for health concepts and values (like healthy nutritional habits, fighting smoking, etc….)
3- Establishing of multi-specialized and multi-functional medical teams.
4- Provision of high quality primary health care services in line with the international standard while meeting the community needs.
5- Provision of mental health care services within integrated health programmes.
6- Endeavour to provide comprehensive integrated primary health care services for all community groups.
7- Social productivity.
8- Opening of communication channels between providers of health services and the patients and their families in order to fulfill their needs and aspirations.
