CHEMISTRY LAB UNIT
ANALYTICAL CAPABILITY
1. Quality parameters testing based on standards , specifications of food ,detection of pork and other types of meat.
2. Detection of food additives such as food colours, preservatives, non – nutritive sweeteners, caffeine and antioxidants etc.
3. Identification of Food contaminants such as: (Mycotoxins (aflatoxins ), Pesticide residues & PCBs (organochlorine, organophosphorous, organonitrogen, organosulphur, carbamates and synthetic pyrethrins).
4. Identification of Tar, Nicotine and Co for Tobaccos and Cigarettes.
The Chemistry Lab :
The chemistry lab is equipped with latest and highest technology for food analysis such as ; Atomic absorption spectrophotometers ,High performance liquid chromatographs ,Liquid chromatograph-Mass spectrometer ,Gas chromatographs ,Protein analyzer, UV/Vis.Spectrophotometer , Ion coupled plasma and Spectrum RXIFTIR system.
Additional equipments will be introduced in the near future which include UPLC, LC/MS/MS, Milcoscan and IRMS
WATER LAB UNIT
ANALYTICAL CAPABILITY
Identification of Heavy Metals ( Lead , Cadmium, Arsenic , Mercury , Copper , Zinc and Nickel ) using high performance Techniques like ; Ion chromatograph , TOC Analyzer and Polarograph.
MICROBIOLOGY LAB UNIT
ANALYTICAL CAPABILITY
Detections of the following:
1. Mesophilic aerobic bacteria .
2. Coliforms and Echerichia coli bacteria.
3. Yeast and Moulds.
4. Staphylococcus aureus.
5. Acidophilic thermophilic bacteria .
6. Clostridium perfringens.
7. Bacillus cereus.
8. Bacillus coagulans.
9. Enterococcus sps.
Detection of the following Pathogens :
1. Salmonella spp.
2. Listeria monocytogenes.
3. E.coli 0157.
4. Yersinia enterocolitica.
5. Vibrio cholerae.
6. Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
7. Campylobacter jejunii.
8. Legionella pneumophila.
9. Enterobacter sakazakii (Baby milk food ).
10. Parasites (ova and cysts ).
Microbiology lab is equipped with high performance machines for food analysis such as ;
Millipore Filtration System for Water Analysis , BBL – Crystal Bacterial Identification System ,Mini API– Microbial Identification System IDEXX-Water Testing System and Multiparametric Immunoanalysis System.
Additional equipments will be introduced in the near future which include Real time-PCR for molecular microbiology.
