Supreme Council of Health Celebrations of the World Cancer Day:
The State of Qatar joined the world in celebrating the World Cancer Day correspondent with the 4th of February. This year's theme is …."Cancer can be prevented too…."
On this occasion the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) organized a number of activities including exhibitions in the Villagio and Landmark complexes. The exhibitions provided educational pamphlets and fliers on cancer, besides band to be distributed among the audience. There were doctors, nurses and health educators from the SCH to answer questions by members of the public about the disease. This is in addition to registering appointments for those interested to have early test at "the healthy woman clinic" and the smoking abandoning clinic.
Other upcoming activities will include the participation in a number of programmes on Qatar radio, TV and Al Jazeera Mubashir, giving the right information about cancer. Such programmes host specialists to talk about the subjects like Dr. Mohamed Bin Hamad, Director of Public Health, Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwari, National Programme Director, Dr. Hareth Al Khater, Cancer Consultant, Dr. Mahasin Okasha. Medcal cosultancy on these programmes were given by Dr. Salha Bo Jassoum, Specialist at Al Amal Hospital, Dr. Sheikha Abu Sheikha from the cancer unit in the SCH
Within the framework of the SCH educational programmes in the occasion of the World cancer day, Abu Bakr Health Centre organised a host of workshops in cooperation with Al Amal Hospital, in addition to a lecture on breast and cervix cancers, and the necessary preventive measures. The Airport Health Centre organized a workshop in cooperation with Qatar Cancer Society, where Dr. Mahasi Okasha talked about healthy diet and self tests with some practical demonstration. Nurses Jenat Taha and Noor Askanani, talked about the sevices provide by the healthy woman clinic, the targeted audience and the procedures of the check up. Pamphlets and handbooks were distributed during the worshop.
