The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) organized a workshop on the Environmental Health Effects of projects at the Grand Regency Hotel. This comes in line with Qatar Vision 2030, and within the framework of Qatar National Health Strategy, in providing preventive healthcare through evaluating the environmental impacts of projects on health.
The Workshop included representatives from the Ministry of Environment Centre, Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning, Qatar University Environmental Research, Qatar Institute of Energy and Environment and Qatar Petroleum (Ras Laffan Industrial City).
Dr. Mohamed Al Hajri, Manager of Health Protection and Communicable Diseases at the SCH highlighted the objective of organizing the Workshop, and the importance of conducting studies on the health effects of different projects. This comes as part of the SCH efforts in protecting human health against any negative effects especially the environmental ones.
Dr. Al Hajri stressed the need for focusing on the positive and negative health effects resulting from the implementation of projects. Such efforts will no doubt contribute to taking the right decision about such projects in favour of people’s health.
Addresses by the participants from the SCH, the WHO or the international environmental adviser focused on raising awareness of the importance of the evaluation studies from the health point of view, and finding the right mechanism of implementing their outcome.
