Kindly informed that the Permanent Licensing Committee(PLC) has approved the following Policy for registration and licensing and scope of practice of nurse specialist in the State of Qatar:
A Nurse Specialist is an educationally prepared nurse for a career path in one of the internationally recognized nursing specialization from a recognized educational institution. 
The applicant for registration and licensing as a nurse specialist must fulfill the following :
·         Meet eligibility requirements for licensing as general scope nurse in the State of Qatar .
·         Hold Post basic qualification from a recognized educational institution .The length of the program should be not less than one academic year.An official transcript may be required .
·         Completion of a nursing specialization program approved by Medical Licensing Department (provided that the study length of the program is not less than 9 months ) Please note :nursing is a clinically based field discipline -online and distant learning program will not be accepted.
·         Minimum of three years experience post graduation in the same specialization with no break in clinical practice. In cases where there has been a break in practice, the PLC policy on break in clinical practice will be applied .
·          Successfully verification of credentials and background checks by the Supreme Council of Health is an approved agent .

No . Specialization Scope
1 CRITICAL CARE NURSE SPECIALIST Plans, provides and evaluates nursing care for patients experiencing critical health problems that require intensive & specialized nursing care in intensive care units.
2 NEPHROLOGY NURSE SPECIALIST Plans, provides and evaluates nursing care for patients experiencing renal problems or at risk for renal problems in hospitals, renal dialysis units, specialized clinics, outpatient clinics, kidney transplant centers, and other related health care
3 ONCOLOGY NURSE SPECIALIST Plans, provides and evaluates nursing care for cancer patients or persons at risks for cancer in hospitals, specialized clinics, outpatient clinics, nursing, home care facilities and other related health care institutions.
4 PSYCHIARTIC NURSE SPECIALIST Plans, provides and evaluates nursing care for patients experiencing psychological problems or at risk for psychological problems in hospitals, specialized clinics, outpatient clinics, mental health institutions, nursing home care facilities, social rehabilitation centers and other related health care institutions.
5 MEDICAL  SURGICAL NURSE SPECIALIST Plans, provides and evaluates nursing care for adult patients experiencing medical and/or surgical problems in hospitals, specialized clinics, outpatient clinics, nursing home care facilities and other related health care institutions.
6 EMERGENCY NURSE SPECIALIST Plans & prioritizes the urgency of care, administers resuscitative measures and other treatments, and evaluates nursing care for patients in the emergency or critical phase of their illness or injury and are assumed to have discerning life-threatening problems, with a high degree of autonomy under supervision of emergency physician in emergency care setting. 
7 CARDIOLOGY    NURSE SPECIALIST Plans, provides and evaluates nursing care for patients experiencing cardiac problems or at risks for cardiac problems in hospitals, coronary care units, specialize clinics, outpatient clinics, and other related health care institutions.
8 NEONATAL NURSE SPECIALIST Plans, provides and evaluates nursing care for healthy neonates and those experiencing heath problems in hospitals, neonatal units and other related units.
9 PAEDIATRIC NURSE SPECIALIST Plans, provides and evaluates nursing care for healthy children and children experiencing health problems in hospitals, primary health care settings, specialized clinics, outpatient clinics, and other related health care institutions.
10 PRIMARY HEALTH CARE NURSE SPECIALIST Plans, provides and evaluates primary health care services, health promotion and disease prevention for different groups of clients in diverse primary health care settings in collaboration and coordination with health institutions and general community institutions.
11 OCCUPATIONAL  HEALTH NURSE SPECIALIST Plans, provides and evaluates occupational health care and accident prevention for workers onsite with a high degree of autonomy in collaboration and coordination with hospitals and other health institutions.
12 PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE SPECIALIST Plans, provides and evaluates health care, by employment of multiple strategies for health promotion, disease prevention, and risk identification for the public.
13 NURSE EDUCATOR Designs, conducts, and evaluates nursing education, training and continuing professional development for nurses (theory and clinical) in academic institutions, medical education centers, hospitals and staff development units/HR.
14 ANESTHETST NURSE  SPECIALIST Works as member of anesthetic team to provide care for patients pre, during, and post operations and/or other medical procedures that require anesthesia in hospitals, labour rooms, dental clinics, pain management clinics, ambulatory surgical units, and other

GERIATRIC
NURSE SPECIALIST
Plans, provides and evaluates nursing care for healthy aged and for those experiencing chronic diseases and aging- related problems at hospitals, nursing homes, primary health care institutions, elderly care centers other related institutions.
16 ORTHOPEDIC NURSE SPECIALIST Plans, provides and evaluates nursing care for patients experiencing problem in the musculoskeletal system in hospitals, orthopedic clinics and other related units.
