Qatar and Egypt Sign Health Cooperation Agreement
H.E Minister of Public Health and Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Health, Abdulla bin Khalid Al-Qahtani, met with the visiting Egypt’s Minister Dr. Hatem Al-Jabali. Talks
during the meeting dealt with mutual relations between Qatar and Egypt in various fields, particularly those related to health and medical aspects
The two Ministers witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement on “Rehabilitation and Recruitment Program of Egyptian Medical Workforce”.
Dr. Mariam Abdulmalik, Acting General Director of Primary Health Care, signed the agreement for the Qatari side and Dr. Essam Al-Toukhi, Director of National Ophthalmology Center, signed the agreement for the Egyptian side.
H.E Abdulla Al-Qahtani stated that the meeting is culmination of the efforts being exerted since the Cairo meeting, These efforts culminated in signing a cooperation agreement between the state of Qatar and Egypt on supporting, developing and training medical, technical and administrative manpower of the Republic of Egypt wishing to work in the State of Qatar in accordance with the requirements of the State of Qatar in various health disciplines.
H.E praised the efforts made by the Egyptian Minster which resulted in signing the agreement, which represents an accomplishment in a short period of time.
He pointed out that the meeting also dealt with means of enhancing mutual relations on the private sector’s operating of the health care centers as well as the investment opportunities of Qatar in Egypt especially those related to pharmaceutical industry.
He mentioned that the State of Qatar will benefit from the experiences of Egypt on health insurance and pharmaceutical.
Dr. Hatem Al-Jabali, Egyptian Minister of Health stated that he exchanged views with the Qatari Minister regarding the issues of concern to both sides. They also followed up the agreements made during their last meeting in Cairo.
He added that the Arab Republic of Egypt cooperates with the State of Qatar on primary health care and that they agreed to expand cooperation in this area in the future.
Dr. Mariam Abdulmlik, Acting General Director of Primary Health Care stated that the agreement reflects the keenness of the Supreme Council of Health in the State of Qatar and the Ministry of Health in Egypt on promoting and developing cooperation between the two countries regarding the support, development and training of medical, technical and administrative work force wishing to work in the State of Qatar.
She added that the main purpose of the training and rehabilitation program of physicians wishing to work in the State of Qatar is to enable the Qatari side to select health staff from Egypt to work in the health sector after being rehabilitated through an intense program in Egypt in accordance with the professional requirements in Qatar.
She added that she leaded a team in Egypt to draft this agreement. 15 Egyptian doctors and 3 radiologists were recruited in addition to selecting 35 physicians to join the training program starting next March to be rehabilitated to work in primary health care centers particularly in Family Medicine and General Medicine.
Dr. Mariam mentioned that the training program lasts for six months adding that the training process will be followed up by Qatari officials.
She pointed out that the agreement provides an opportunity for continuous communication and further agreements between the two sides in other areas of the health sector.
The meeting was attended by many senior officials of the Supreme Council of Health and the delegation accompanying the Egyptian Minister.
